Shell Malaysia Promotes Road Safety And Courtesy Campaigns
“Shell” Malaysia represents one of Malaysia’s leading suppliers of “fuel” in this country. Many people may not realize it, but Shell Malaysia has been contributing to national road safety efforts in Malaysia for quite a long time now.

In fact, it has been involved in “road safety and courtesy campaigns” since 1957, when our country achieved its independence.

In conjunction with Shell’s 54th year, the company recently donated RM1million for “annual traffic games”. The above donation was made by Shell’s managing director, Encik Azman Ismail.

Encik Ismail handed over a mock cheque to a value of RM1million to the Deputy Minister of Transport, Encik Jelaing Mersat at the inaugural Road safety Dialogue which Shell Malaysia organized.

The above was organized in collaboration with the Road Safety Department, the Road transport Department and MIROS or the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research.

Shell Malaysia is said to take road safety seriously. The company is reported to be very serious in promoting road safety in Malaysia. Shell, is one of the few companies in Malaysia that promotes education of its drivers.

Besides that, Shell is intent to work closely with other relevant government agencies and departments to make Malaysia safer through community programmes and partnerships.

The public might wish to inquire, what is Shell’s donation of RM1 million for?

The above large donation is for the organization of shell’s Traffic Games in Peninsular Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak. Shell’s Traffic Games is reportedly now in, its 54th year and it represents one of Shell’s and probably one of the country’s longest running corporate social responsibility programmes existing.

A total of 40,000 students throughout the whole nation will take part in this year “Shell’s Traffic Games”. The above games have exposed students to road safety and courtesy since its inception in 1957.

The Shell Safety Games were first launched to complement the government’s desire to promote the awareness of road safety amongst the public.

Malaysia represents one of the countries with the highest rate of accidents. For a small country, with population of some 25 million people including Sabah and Sarawak, it chalks up some 7,500 deaths annually. This is indeed worrying.

The “Shell Games” on safety will hopefully assist the authorities to reduce its road deaths eventually. Talking about the above games, Shell’s Trading Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Encik Azman Ismail said teams from schools will compete against each other in both “practical” and “theoretical” contests.

Practical session will be staged at traffic gardens or tracks which have been specially designed to simulate complete miniature road systems or traffic movements. Besides the above practical and theoretical competitions and contests, there will also be road safety quiz on traffic rules and regulations.

All in all, we sincerely hope and anticipate, that this year’s Shell Traffic Games launched recently will promote better road safety consciousness especially amongst students and the public generally.
