Warning: Don’t Use Your Hand Phone While Driving Or You’ll Be Terminated

Maria – Wife Of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Caught In The Act

It looks as if the United States of America, is no different from Malaysia. What am I talking about? What is referred to here is, the use of “hand phones” by drivers.

Preferably drivers are advised to use hands free sets while they are driving.

Very recently, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the famous “Terminator”, received 2 photographs showing his wife, Maria Shriver holding a phone to her ear while she was behind the wheel.

The video which was shot recently, was recorded in Brentwood, where the family lives. The video, the report further said, showed Shriver holding a cell phone to her ear while driving a large Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) that appears to be a Cadillac Escalade.

Governor Schwarzenegger, when told of his wife’s action retorted “Thanks for bringing her violations to my attention”. He promised swift action.

Many accidents, especially in the United States as well as Malaysia are caused mainly by drivers using their hand phones while driving.

A law, which took effect in July 2008. And signed by Arnold, requires California drivers to use hands free device when talking on cell phones.

Californian Highway Patrol claim, they have issued more than 150,000 citations. This figure does not include citations issued by local police.

Let’s now compare the fines imposed by the Californian authorities and the Malaysian authorities on the use of hand phones while driving.

In America, the 1st offence is $20 (RM67), followed by $50 (RM169) for subsequent tickets.

While in Malaysia, using hand phones entails a RM300 fine.

Not much of a difference, is there?

But wait till you hear of Los Angeles country. Here, the Superior Court has set the cost at about $93 (RM314) and the subsequent offences at $210 (RM678).

California’s decision to raise the fines to such high amounts is to be applauded. Malaysian authorities, likewise should also ape to the above authorities’ decision and fine Malaysian drivers more.

Finally, what did Arnold Schwarzenegger do to his wife? Divorce her? No!

He would be asking Maria Shriver not to hold the phone while driving.

As for his 16 year old daughter, a stern warning has been issued by the “Terminator”. If she ever violated the law, “she’ll be taking the bus”.

But unfortunately, Malaysian drivers cannot follow the footsteps of Arnold’s daughter. Our bus system is pretty bad.

To all those using hand phones without a hands free set, beware! Or you might have to walk, you know!

Cikgu Yap, does using a handphone while driving fall under the Kategori 1 offences now ? Meaning a full summon amount of RM 300.00 without any discount ? I’ve been issued one last week and would like to settle it fast. Thanks.
