5 Good Reasons Why You Should Buy A New Car Versus Used Car

There comes a time when a person has to make a decision, to buy a brand new car or a second hand one. Various pros and cons have to be considered. The final decision however will depend solely upon the person who is buying the car himself or herself.

Today, I will put forward various pros and cons that favour the buying a new vehicle and that of buying a second hand vehicle. You have to weigh both the pros and cons before you arrive at a decision.

Reasons to support your buying a brand new car:-

1) A new car provides you with pride and prestige.

A brand new vehicle obviously will bring you a certain amount of pride and prestige. You will certainly be the proud owner of a new car as compared to a second hand one.

And especially if you are owning a model such as a Mercedes, Volvo or a BMW vehicle. A salesman, who owns one of the above cars, will find that his business will be in a way affected by the type of vehicle be owns.

2) Better service and performance.

New cars obviously tend to provide you better service and performance as compared to a second hand one. Without a doubt, a new car or vehicle will tend to provide you with a better performance or better service all round.

They can, as they say, provide you with reliable services, and fewer breakdowns. Therefore with new cars, you can rely on your new vehicles to provide you with the confidence that you expect from them!

3) Vehicle warranty.

New cars have warranty to cater for breakdowns as compared to vehicles which are slowly undergoing deterioration.

Most new vehicles possess a warranty period of approximately 5 years. If within a 5 year period, a new vehicle should breakdown, then the warranty calls for the agents or distributors to be responsible for repairs and upkeep of the new vehicle.

4) Better fuel efficiency.

New cars are more fuel efficient as compared to older second hand cars. New vehicles are said to be able to give the owner better fuel consumption. This means a new vehicle will be able to provide lesser costs of maintenance to the owner.

5) Better resale value.

New vehicles have a higher resale value. Where resale value of cars are concerned, it is believed that new cars possess a higher resale value as compared to a second hand car.

    Thanks for the response.

    My questions are….

    1. How do I check with JPJ if the car that I traded in with the new car manufacturer has been sold to someone else? Is this a standard procedure that require some form to be submitted?

    2. Is it too late to do the 2nd part (inform JPJ, police report)? The car was traded in more than 2 years ago to buy a new car?

    3. Which department can I send the letter to at JPJ? Would they accept such a letter since they are accustom to receiving their standard forms

    4. Would the police accept such a police report to notify that the car has been traded in 2 years ago? The police will be wondering why now after 2 years?

    5. The car was traded-in and it also appear in the new car sales invoice. A letter of acknowledgement of the hand over to the car manufacturer was also recv. Is there still a need for an agreement to be made.

What should the content of the agreement be since the car is traded in.

Will the stamping office stamp an agreement that was meant for a car traded in more than 2 years ago?

In addition, the old car insurance was canceled when the car was traded in. Should’nt this procedure suffice as documentation that the old car has been sold?

    Thank you

The standard agreement between you and the car agent is sufficient to protect you. Should you receive any summons in future, see the authorities with the above agreement. You should be protected, in my opinion.

    Hello Cikgu Yap,
Good day to you. For your info, my car road tax will be expired on 24/2/2012 and my insurance will be expired on 4/4/2012. The expiry date difference due to the car was transfered last year in which i am utilised the previous owner road tax. Now in order to enjoy the NCD benefit, which will be with effect 31/3/2012, Will JPJ allow me to renew road tax at this moment if renew my car insurance effective date start from 5/4/2012 considering that period from 25/2/2012 till 4/4/2012 will still be insured under my current insurance policy which valid from 4/4/2011 till 4/4/2012.

    Thank you CIKGU.

Your road tax expires on 24/2/2012. JPJ will issue you the new road tax on 5/4/2012 as you so desire. But, don’t forget, from 25/2/2012 to 4/42012, you will have no road tax. You therefore cannot drive.

2nd car much better unless you sleeping on money.

    1) Pride and prestage is loosing money. Apa untung?. Kita jadi sombong. No good!!
    2) Better service and performance??. Will not save much. If you totally blind about car probably true. But as a car tuner like me. I can detect any sensor problem, tuning air fuel ratio, even can remap ecu for better performance. They will not give you free!!
3)Vehicle warranty. You play with 4D lucky draw. Risk for loosing money
4)If you want save/small fuel use kancillah.
5)Better resale totally wrong. Say bBrand new BMW cost 200K, if you use for 2 yrs you will loose 20-30% money- 40-60K. If you take 6yrs car and sale 2 yrs later you will loose 10-15% from car price, approx 13-18K. which one loose money????..hahaha
