I don’t feel hybrids are particularly highly priced- the Insight comes in around 89k, which is a good substitute for anything else in it’s segment. The Prius, being the only other common hybrid is roughly 130k, which is pricey but isn’t that much more than a Camry or Accord.

If going for fuel consumption, diesels are the way to go. The cheapest decent diesel would be the Focus TDCi, and on our own tests it can go around 800 km reasonably on one tank of diesel.

These are genuine good reasons and generally speaking they apply to all countries, eg price hybrid car is prohibitive for most everyday car user, and even with some grant from government people just can not afford these cars at the moment.
