Many students or candidates fail either Part 2 (Parking) or Part 3 (Road Test) of their Class D (Car) license. They have to re-test for the above all over again.
As some are unaware of the steps to be taken in applying for a re-test, thus this article is specially written to assist them. The procedures are as follows:
1) When re-test can be arranged.
Normally, re-tests can be done the following week. If you are able to get “leave” to appear for the test, inform your driving school. Test results lasts 1 year.
2) Payment for re-test.
Re-tests can cost anything from RM130 – RM150. It varies from instructor to instructor. So the best thing is have a word with him.
3) Registration for the test.
Usually, this is done on your test day. This is to eliminate the hassle of having to contact you again. All forms required are signed by you on the spot. Likewise, all documents needed can be obtained from you there and then.
Mykad particulars, L.D.L. (Learner Driver’s License) fotostat copies etc can also be easily available as you are around. You have also to sign the Borang 4 (entry form) too.
4) The cost of re-registering for the re-test.
As explained in No.2 above, cost of re-test is anything from RM130 – RM150. As a candidate, you may wish to know they breakdown of the above payment.
The possible breakdown is roughly as follows:
i) Institute’s charges RM25 – RM30
ii) Test card RM10
iii) Car rental / insurance RM30 – RM40
iv) 2 extra lessons RM40
The above calculations represent only an estimate. It may vary from individual to individual driving instructor.
Most instructors follow the “give and take” policy. As times, the amount collected for a re-test (approximately) RM130 – RM150, may or may not cover the entire cost.
The above represents my own personal opinion. Please remember, it should not be taken as a rule though.
5) Supply necessary documents and registration form filling.
To enter for a re-test, a few documents and forms need to be filled. Fill up Borang 4. Sign the form wherever necessary. Documents required are as follows:
i) Photocopy Mykad both sides.
ii) Photocopy “L” license (LDL) both sides.
iii) Attached computer test results (both copies – Parking and road).
iv) New test card (to be purchased by institute).
The above documents / forms are to be submitted to the authorities for registration before due date for test the following week.
6) Learning extra 2 lessons prior to next test.
Regulations require a candidate learning an extra 2 lessons prior to the second test. Arrange with your instructor, over the weekend, to take up your extra 2 lessons.
It needs 2 only extra hours. This would enable the instructor to submit your entry before the deadline, which is either Tuesday or Wednesday, which institutes follow.
Finally, do liase with your instructor over the next few days regarding your re-test. In the meantime, you should make your own arrangement for “leave” with your office.
As you will only be performing one part or section of the test this time around, your test will not take too much time.
A word of advice though, the parking will most likely be faster being done. While the road test which entails going on to the road, may take a little wee bit longer.

Dear Cikgu Yap, I failed my jalanraya test because I didn’t obey the traffic light. Well, actually I didn’t notice it was red that time. Anyway, the tester told me to get off of the car and so I did. After that, she drove the car. On our way back to the ujian center, she didn’t obey the traffic light by driving the car when the traffic light was red. Can I file a report for this kind of matter?
What you did will certainly fail you. The tester was correct to aborting the test. Yours is Gagal Serta Merta (GSM) offense. Accept the fact that you failed. Please refrain further from finding fault with the officer. Be more careful next time around and learn to be a better driver.
Hai, I paid 1500 for car licence guarantee sampai pass. But I failed my parking as I cross the line, and jalanraya pass. Now my driving instructure ask me to pay 150 for retest. Should I be paying him, as innitialy he committed guarantee sampai pass
Either pay your instructor or you can’t do your test.

GSM (Gagal Serta Merta) or instant failure in English. A student on test shouldn’t commit the above mistakes. It will cause him or her to fail instantaneously. Not wearing the seat belt, not using the indicator when turning, overtaking at double lines and poor steering control are some of the examples of GSM.
