He came back with a letter saying it cannot be converted as my profession is not among the listed professions but at the same time they told me that i can drive in Malaysia using my Indian licence. Is this true?

Indian driving license is usable in Malaysia. To get Malaysian driving license, you can convert Indian license to Malaysian license only if you are a doctor.
