Welcoming The Year Of The Rabbit Into 2011

The Chinese New Year lunar celebration is scheduled on 5th February 2011. With it, the year of the rabbit will reign over the year 2011.

I am not a feng shui expert, but knowing the rabbit to be an amicable and cuddly animal, I suppose it would be safe to say that the year 2011 will be a fairly good year for all Malaysians as a while.

In Klang, crowds of elderly folks whom I gather are over 55 to 60 years of have gathered at the premises of a few establishments in town to receive their annual donations and gifts out by the above mentioned concerns.

It has been a tradition since time immemorial, I suppose, for large Chinese companies in Malaysia to do their part of giving out aids to the poor, the elderly folks and the unfortunate during this auspicious season.

When I was young, I remember the Shaws Organisation, under the famous Shaw Brothers, Run Run Shaw, Run Me Shaw and son Vee Meng Shaw, doing their part to society without fail every lunar new year. Likewise, the Cathay Organisation Group, under Loke Wan Tho, a well known Malaysian philanthropist himself, has always seen it part of their duty to help the less fortunate members of our society as the Chinese New Year approaches.

In Klang town, although there are many large companies and even restaurants around, nevertheless, not many opt to give out donations and assistance to the poor and the elderly during this festive period.

However, I wish to commend 2 of the town’s establishments and trading concern which have chosen to continue doing their duty to society. They, in fact should be commended. We sincerely hope many others will follow suit in the years to come.

As early as 8:00 am, big crowds of people made up of mostly elderly people, mostly Chinese, had gathered at the gates of one Klang town’s well known restaurant – The Taman Rashna Restaurant.

What will recipients be given I wonder? Most probably, each person will get a big new year ang pow, a few bags of sugar, rice, oranges, clothing and perhaps new year cookies. All in all, as the saying goes, it will make the day for the elderly and less fortunate

To the establishments of the above restaurant, you may think no one appreciates it, but in actual fact, they do. We appreciate your kind donations and commend your company’s effort to the society. To Mr. Goh, one of the restaurant’s Managing Directors I personally know, thank you very much!

One other establishment is a company which is involved in the construction business, should likewise also to be commended for its annual presentation of gifts and ang pows to the less fortunate old folks in Klang town. In the month of January, large crowds of people, I observed, had already gathered at the head office of New Business Center (NBC) in Jalan Meru, Klang.

The above organization under Datuk Ng Bee Chai, has without fail carried its annual distribution of ang pows, gifts, new year goodies and other necessary items to the poor and the elderly for many years now.

Lest the NBC organization should feel their efforts have gone unnoticed by the people of Klang, let it be assured that people of this royal town do appreciate your fantastic and remarkable record of helping the poor and the needy. Keep up the good work!
