Model kereta yang saya beli adalah MPV mini Perodua Alza.

Saya masih ingat, juru jual kereta tersebut memberi saya option untuk menampal tinting dengan harga yang murah.

Kalau tidak salah, harga promosi tinted kereta Produa Alza yang baru adalah RM999.00.

Saya membuat keputusan untuk menampal tinting ke atas kereta baru saya.

Saya ada satu sebab mengapa saya ingin mendapatkan tinting kereta.

Sebab saya adalah “cuaca panas” negara Malaysia.

Walaupun semua kereta baru ada air-conditioning, di sebabkan oleh matahari yang terik, air-con memerlukan masa yang agak lama untuk menyejukkan ruang dalam kereta.

Saya mempunyai 2 orang anak.

Saya tidak sampai hati melihat mereka berpeluh di dalam kereta kerana cuaca yang panas.

Fungsi tinting kereta

Fungsi tinting kereta adalah agar jelas. It menghalang kuasa infra merah (infra red) matahari daripada memanaskan ruang dalaman kereta.

Tinting di cermin kereta juga akan menghalang sinaran ultra violet (UV-A dan UV-B) yang sangat merbahaya kepada kulit kita.

Tinting juga berfungsi membenarkan cahaya melepasi cermin kereta tanpa menggugat penglihatan kita.

Sebenarnya, terdapat banyak jenama tinting kereta di pasaran.

Yang popular adalah 3M, Raytech, VKool dan sebagainya.

Harga tinting tentulah berbeza.

Harga bergantung kepada jenama, kualiti, lapisan dan juga ruang cermin kereta yang perlu di tampal.

Harga untuk tint sebuah kereta Toyota Vell Fire tentunya akan lebih mahal berbanding dengan tinting ke atas kereta Perodua Myvi.

Masalah tinting kereta

Terdapat beberapa masalah untuk cermin kereta yang menampal lapisan tinting.

Dengan adanya tinting di cermin kereta, ia akan mengurangkan Visible Light Transmission (VLT) ataupun Transmission Cahaya Penglihatan.

Kekurangan VLT adalah sangat merbahaya untuk pemandu, terutama dalam keadaan waktu malam.

Walaupun lampu depan kereta di pasang, ia adalah amat sukar untuk pemandu melihat objek di depat kereta.

Untuk penguat kuasa jalan raya seperti pihak JPJ dan Polis, mereka juga ingin melihat siapakah pemandu di dalan kenderaan.

Tinting kereta yang mempunyai VLT yang rendah akan menyukarkan tugas pihak berkuasa.

Kawalan JPJ

Jika anda menggunakan tinting yang mempunyai peratusan VLT yang agak rendah, ada kemungkinan anda akan di saman Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ).

JPJ membenarkan tinting dengan Visible Light Transmittance (VLT) 70% di cermin depan, 50% di cermin tepi depan, 30% di cermin tepi belakang dan 30% untuk cermin belakang kereta.

Bagaimanakah pihak JPJ dapat mengenai pasti tahap VLT tinting kereta?

Pihak JPJ boleh menggunakan alat pembaca VLT yang mudah alih.

Contoh alat tersebut adalah gajet Tint Meter Enforcer.

Apakah hukuman jika anda di dapati menggunakan tinting yang mempunyai VLT yang terlalu rendah?

Untuk kesalahan kali pertama, anda mungkin di denda RM2000 atau 6 bulan penjara.

Untuk kesalahan kali kedua, anda mungkin di denda RM4000 atau 12 bulan penjara!

Hukumannya memang berat.

Menjelang 1 Januari 2018, semua kereta baru yang mempunyai tinting mesti mengikut standard tinting kereta MS2669 daripada Jabatan Standard Malaysia.

Ini bermaksud, semua filem tint harus mempunyai QR Code keselamatan.

QR Code di atas tinting kereta boleh di imbas ataupun “scan” dengan menggunakan aplikasi smartphone.

Standard MS2669 adalah cadangan daripada Auto Audio Accessories and Air-Condition Traders Association (AAA) dengan sokongan Jabatan Pengangkutan Malaysia dan Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS).

Dengan adanya Standard MS2669, pengguna tidak perlu lagi bimbang samada tinting kereta mereka di benarkan oleh JPJ atau pun tidak.

Semua filem tinting yang di jual di kedai aksesori mesti ada QR Code daripada AAA.

Jika filem tint tiada QR Code, jangan menggunakannya.

Aplikasi smartphone yang di gunakan untuk mengimbas QR Code di kenal sebagai TinTrac dan ia boleh di muat turun daripada Google Play dan App Store.

Gloucester Driving School, a very famous driving establishment in England, incidentally, frequently liases with our blog. And from what I observed, the above Gloucester concern in question seems to possesses a fleet of posh and expensive vehicles that are used to provide tuition to its students.

From it, I assume the Transport Authorities in England must certainly be very strict. They ensure that only well maintained, posh and reliable vehicles are allowed to be used there.

It is without a doubt and also little wonder that English standard s of licenses are renowned to be amongst the world’s highest standards. England must therefore be feeling very proud about this achievement.

Do you know that in Malaysia, the Road Transport Department (RTD) of the Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) commissions the use of Perodua Kancils, Vivas and quite recently Axias for use by the driving school industry?

Our English counterparts seems to use expensive models like Mazda and Ford vehicles for their driving purposes. Hope readers see the difference.

Lest me stray too far away from today’s article in question, permit me to remind readers that the questions or taking steps to insert a vehicle into the driving school industry, in reality either the institutes or driving school these days faces a lot of problems. Permit me to elaborate.


Assuming that a certain model of vehicle, say a Perodua Kancil, passes all the authorities requirements for use. How many people are aware that after that, the vehicle then has to be pasted up with:

a) The establishement’s or driving institutes’ logo, emblem, address etc

b) It is also to be pasted up with the necessary “Ls” or warning logos like “Students On Test”, and “Beware, Learner Drivers” ahead signs as well.

c) Vehicles are then sent to specialists who have the expertise to install our driving school or institutes vehicles with brakes on the left hand side of the vehicle.

Eventually, the instructor now have access to a 2nd set of footbrakes on his side. It therefore makes is much safer for both the student receiving tuition and the instructor dishing out the instruction.

Installing this second set of brakes takes time and of course money. It is estimated that some RM300 – RM500 is required for this purpose. Well, you might not believe it, but what I am telling you is the truth.

Anyway, to cut the long story short, the Malaysian driving schools or institutes are reputed to be the only ones in the world to possess 2 set of footbrakes in all its vehicles.

My former driving instructor, Mr. Tiew Hock Lai, whom I met very recently at 2015 Wesak Day celebrations at the Buddhist Temple in Langat Road, once upon a time told me England, he says, has cars used for driving purposes which has infact 2 steering wheels. One for the students use, and the other for the instructors.

How far is this true? I am not able to verify as I have yet to visit England.

However, if what my former instructor revealed is proven to be true, Malaysia therefore remains a special case. Don’t you tend to agree?

On the 17th May 2015, the management of the institutes at which I am currently attached, gave me directives to taking steps to have my 17 years old vehicle withdrawn from normal service.

It was only after this that I realised what a trouble it was. Extracting or taking out a driving school car from service is no easy matter. The authority gave me 2 weeks to facilitate the above transfer process. I was also fore-warned that strict actions upon non adherence to the authorities instructions or directives would follow.

In my subsequent article following, I will endeavor telling readers that procedures that had to be taken. My unrest hope is that m detailed revelations will assist all other instructors to benefit from it.

At least, like me, they would be enlightened as to what they will have to do in the future in the eventuality they face a similar predicament such as mine.

Talking about tyres, motorists should be informed one important thing about tyres. Experts say, only the tyre surface the size of a closed palm, is constantly in touch with the road surface as a car moves along the highway.

Rims of popular cars in Malaysia normally come in various sizes, such as 13 inches or 14 inches. Most popular tyres come in width measurements of 155, 165, 175 and 185. The bigger the number, it denotes the tyre is wider in size and therefore more costly. It is believed to be also more stable.

Available in the market, are “cross ply” and “radial ply” tyres. The types of tyres you choose for your vehicle is entirely up to you.

Initially, a motorist should know one about tyres. A motorist should ideally know 3 things about tyres- tyre pressure, alignment and tyre balancing.

A motorist should ideally check the above three important things from time to time. In doing so, a motorist will discover that he or she will face no problem at all with his driving.

The “Kancil” is reputed to be fixed with rather small tyres. Kancil tyres are said to be equipped with tyres that costs approximately RM110 – RM140 in the market today. Tyres of other cars are said to be more costly and they can range from RM150 – RM180.

Camry 2.4 cars are said to cost some RM500 per tyre. That’s a total of RM2,000 for all four tyres. As such, to own and drive an expensive vehicle can be quite a costly affair.

“Tyres” may appear to be a rather insignificant part of a vehicle. Many young and inexperienced drivers do not seem to know anything much about tyres. With this in mind, I will therefore envisage to write a short article especially on “tyres” and how one looks after them.

Some of the common problems that are confronted by vehicle owners, be it car owners or motorcycles, face many problems and they may be:-

1. Tyre wear:

As tyres nowadays are today mostly made of rubber, tyres thus undergo wear and tear. The “treads” or “patterns” found on a tyre will wear out or “deplete” as the vehicle moves along the road.

Normally, the “front” tyres of a vehicle, is said to wear out faster than the “rear” tyres. One reason fro this is the front portion of a vehicle is considered to be much heavier as compared to the “rear”. It should be kept in mind, that the engine, which represents the heaviest part of the car, is infact in front. Except maybe, the “Volkswagen” car where the engine happens to be at the back.

New tyres, if proper care is taken, with regards to correct pressures, balancing and alignment, should be able to last a driver, a travelling distance of at least 50,000 to 70,000 kilometers. In terms of time, a new tyre should be able to last a driver, a time period of at least 18 months to two years. Or may be even more.

What motorists are advised to do is to faithfully check the tyre pressures from time to time. Likewise, have balancing done periodically. Unbalanced tyres will cause a vehicle’s steering to vibrate or wobble. It may even cause a steering wheel to run to one side.

Poor alignment will also cause tyres to be worn out unevenly. If this should happen, tyres which are normally meant to last 2 years or so, will only last a few months. In the end, a driver will have to fork out large sums of money to purchase new tyres.

2. Tyres going out of shape:

Tyres should ideally be “round” or circular in shape. However, a possibility exists whereby, due to wear and tear and constant usage, tyres can sometimes go out of shape.

Certain sections of the tyre may begin to “bulge”. Such tyres are no longer completely circular or round as they should be. When this happens, tyres rotate unevenly. They infact “wobble”. When this happens to any of your 4 tyres, have a good tyre man check out the conditions of your tyre that is providing you with problems. Have the mis-shaped tyre replaced quickly to prevent further problems affecting you.

3. Tyres bulging at the walls:

At times, tyres do sometimes “bulge” or “swell” at the side of the tyre walls. This happens due to poor production techniques whilst at the factory. Sometimes, tyre walls undergo “bulging” due to incidences whereby the sides of the tyre undergo driving conditions such as the tyres hitting hard road curbs or dividers, thus causing the tyre walls to sustain damage.

Poor driving by drivers who are not careful as they negotiate sharp corners are normally cited as reasons why tyre walls erupt in bulges. As such, motorists should ensure that they adopt good driving techniques so as to make sure they do not harm their tyres, which in reality, can be rather costly.

4. The problem of air or pressure escaping from a tyre:

The problem of air or pressure escaping from a tyre can be one of the most irritating problems that can be experienced by a motorist. As I said, to discover that you have to keep on inflating your tyres once every 2 or 3 days is most annoying.

Normally, the air or pressure leaks out through the “air valve”. Faulty air valves, which costs less than RM5 a piece, are usually the culprit of the problem. As such, motorists are advised to have “air valves” either checked or replaced by your neighbourhood tyre man from time to time.

Air or pressure can also escape from holes caused by nails or foreign objects such as sharp metal objects or steel screws that sometimes get embedded either in the walls or the tyres itself, if this happens then air or pressure will come out through the holes in which the nails or foreign objects have embedded themselves.

To solve the above problem, visit your nearest tyre shop, have them check your tyres over to determine what is the cause of your problem. Holes will then have to patched up to prevent further leakages.

5. Pump your tyres, including your spare tyre regularly:

Your vehicle’s tyres should be inflated correctly at regular intervals. Do not forget about your spare tyre, which is normally stored in your booth too. A spare tyre that is void of air or pressure, will be of little use when you sustain a punctured tyre.

Most vehicles usually adopt the 26 – 24 air pressure ratio, that is 26p.s.i or peund per square inch at the front and 24p.s.i, at the rear of the vehicle.

If you happen to own a vehicle whose air pressures is unknown to you, you are advised to look at the panel next to the drivers seat for the tyre air pressure specifications to assist you. Failing which, seek the assistance of a tyre shop to help you.

6. Balance your tyres periodically:

A balanced set of front tyres ensure good handling of the steering. It prevents the steering from wobbling unsteadily. On the whole, the steering becomes more stable. Besides that, it also prevents the steering “wavering” or running to one side, as we say in colloquial terms.

For information, it only costs less than RM10 to balance a set of tyres. A well balanced set of tyres provides one with effortless and superb handling of the steering.

Correct tyre pressures and tread depth (condition od tyres) represents an important criteria in the prevention of accidents. Some motorists are rather fond of exchanging their original tyres for bigger sized or better handling tyres after driving their new vehicles for a short while. Sometimes their original tyres are exchanged for newer brands of tyres which they fancy.

Tyres which are still good in condition, with at least 85%- 90% of tyre treads still infact, are available at some tyre shops for as low as 50%- 60% of their original price. It is as they say, a “purchase”, that is worth buying. Ask around renowned tyre shops in your area, who knows, you might be lucky enough to end up getting a good set of tyres at a reasonable fair price.

To end this article on tyres, I would like to inform all readers that should they be stopped by either the police or the JPJ authorities for using worn out tyres with poor treads, the Road Transport Act 1987, recommends that you be slapped with a RM 150 fine. The above offence is contained in Circular K.105MV(c/u).

And in the courts of law, under Section 119(2), you can thus be fined.

If you are a driver, you should ideally know how to pump air or pressure into your vehicle tyres.

Car tyres sometimes get deflated when they sustain punctures.

In Bahasa Malaysia, which is our National Language, the word pancat or ‘puncture’ is to experience a tyre that has lost its air.

Pertaining to tyres, bocor or ‘void of air’ or in other word having ‘no air’ or ‘pressure’ in one’s tyres, is in fact not a simple matter.

It can cause quite a headache to some drivers, especially the female ones.

Before I continue with today’s article, you might wish to know, what is ‘air’ or ‘pressure’ in our National Language.

The equivalent for the above two words is simply angin.

But surprisingly, angin can also go on to denote or classify someone who is an ‘eccentric’ or of unstable behaviour.

Therefore if people brand you as kepala angin, that means that you are in reality, someone who has a screw loose in the head.

You should therefore be careful of how you use this word.

Lest we stray too far away from today’s topic in question, readers may be wondering why ‘pressure’ has been selected for our discussion today.

It surprised me tremendously, when one afternoon, my wife came home and retorted to me, “I don’t seem to be able to pump air or insert air pressures into my car spare tyre.”

Impossible, was my reply to her.

Until it dawned upon me that she may very well have a point after all!

You see, drivers may feel that pumping air into one’s vehicle is after all, a rather simple task.

Well, do not be surprised.

Continue reading as you may discover that the above ‘task’ might end up being not that simple as you think after all.

Allow me to explain briefly how a ‘pressure dispersing machine’ found in most petrol stations function or work.

Don’t be surprised there might be some of us drivers or motorcycle riders who after all, might not be too well acquainted with the above equipment.

How Does a Pressure Dispensing Machine Work?

Unlike older versions, air dispensing machines at petrol kiosks these days use the metric system. P.S.I or ‘pounds per square inch’ should be quite familiar with most people.

In this article, it is also assumed drivers already know what level of tyre pressures are required for their car tyres.

Front car tyres normally have higher air pressures than back tyres.

After all, it should be realised that as car engines are mostly located in front of the vehicle, thus requiring them to have to be inflated with higher pressures.

As an example, my small Kancil car, its front tyres are usually pumped with approximately 22-26 p.s.i. of air pressures.

The back tyres, however need a lower amount of air pressure, approximately 22-24 p.s.i.

Normal Insertion of Air Pressures

Most people are quite aware or know how to deal with the problem if tyres which are under-inflated.

In such cases, all a person needs to do is to set the air pressure dispensing machine, its dials at say 230 or 32 p.s.i.

Connect the air pressure dispensing hose equipment to your car tyre valve.

Should your car tyre in reality lack the pressure it requires, you will hear a ting-ting or hissing sound as pressures are being inserted.

When sufficient air pressure has been dispensed, the above sounds terminate, indicating completion of the air filling exercise.

What happens when no tinkling or hissing sounds are emitted when you connect your tyre to the air dispensing equipment?

Well, this simply means your tyre does not need the required air pressure that you suspect your tyres require.

In short, you tyre air pressure is then normal.

Get what I intend to say, hopefully.

How does one deal with the problem of tyres which have lost an extensive amount of air pressures is attempted to be inflated?

What happens then?

In such a scenario, a driver will obviously be faced with an unusual problem.

The normal usual settings of the dials of the air dispensing gadget will then not seem to function at all.

In such instances, air pressure or air fails to be emitted.

The machine or air dispensing instrument will not emit a tinkling or hissing sound which it normally emits.

This can either depict machine malfunction or that something is wrong with it.

What then does a driver do?

In actual fact, there is nothing wrong with it.

Do not despair!

What happens is you have failed to set the machine dials correctly.
